The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, slipped 133 points, or 0.3%, to close at 48,025 on Thursday, trimming earlier losses and ending a six-session winning streak as investors locked in profits after the gauge hit a record high the previous day. The broader market mirrored overnight weakness on Wall Street, pressured by rising oil prices and higher US Treasury yields amid uncertainty surrounding US-Iran negotiations. Sentiment was also cautious ahead of the Trump–Xi summit, where artificial intelligence and tariffs were expected to be key topics.

The pullback was led primarily by the electronic technology, finance, and health technology sectors. Electronic technology declined 0.4% after gaining 1.2% in the prior session. TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a heavyweight that represents more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization, fell 1.0%, reversing a 1.6% advance on Wednesday. Among other major tech names, Hon Hai Precision, United Microelectronics, and Nanya Tech lost 2.2%, 3.8%, and 2.3%, respectively.
